Eonfusion offers Australian Rules Football analysts the ability to visualize the spatial distribution and performance of players on-field during training and matches. Traditionally, player speed has been monitored over time as proxy for performance. Players wear GPS tracking devices during training and matches to record this information. Using the same data, Eonfusion enables the ability to monitor both player speed and location on the field at any time, providing new insight into the way 2 or more players interact during the course of a match. Similarly, the data can be analysed to assess the effectiveness of rule changes on player performance and injury reduction. Eonfusion enhances the representation of on-field data collected across an entire game season, allowing the performance of teams to be compared and ranked.
In this example, the track of two players is revealed as they move around Docklands Stadium, Melbourne. The colour of the track indicates player speed. Acceleration and velocity are calculated using Eonfusion's Expression Evaluator, and the new data are attributed to the original data set. A cumulative analysis indicates the time players spend across the playing field, and inter-player distance is also calculated. Sports trainers can use this information to assess how players interact, and to undertake analyses of performance during training drills versus performance in an actual match. By comparing training and actual play data, feedback can be given to players which will influence performance.
